Ever since I can remember, I have had a funny way of marking down the days to any big event. I know a lot of people may mark a special day on a calendar and then count the days to that event. I have been known to follow that same pattern, but with an added twist.
I am going to be going on a what I consider to be a much deserved and certainly a much needed vacation after next week. I will be flying to Washington state on Saturday, May 8, to help celebrate the birthday of a good friend. I have not spent much time in the Pacific northwest, so I am looking forward to seeing a little bit of that part of the country. I won't be spending much time in Seattle (except for the airport). My final destination is a medium-sized town about four hours driving time east of Seattle. This part of the state may not seem like a “tourist destination,” but if you don't treat it as a “tourist destination,” any place can be very interesting, especially with good company. But I won't bore you with all my vacation plans. My intent here is to bore you with something completely different.
I made reservations for this short vacation about three months ago. I found a good airfare and took advantage of it. As soon as I made my plans definite, I started a “countdown.” I have been counting down the time in ways other than simply counting days, hours, etc. I count down in terms of rolls of toilet paper, bars of soap, bottles of vitamins, things like that. I figure the roll of toilet paper I just started will be the same roll I will use when I come back. The bar of bath soap I am using now will probably still be in use when vacation time rolls around on Saturday, May 8. The bottle of low-dose aspirin only has five pills left, so I will be starting a new bottle before vacation. But when that bottle is finished, vacation will only be a few days away.
I do love the time I spend here. I especially love the time we share during our weekly visits. But, I am looking forward to my vacation as well. Only one more mustache trim to go (not counting the one on the morning I leave).
