On Thursday, July 28, candidates for three seats on the Madison County District School Board were able to make their case at the Madison County Courthouse during the first “Know Before you Vote” political forum, produced by Greene Publishing, Inc.
The evening began with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem and an inspirational invocation by Jamarien “JP” Moore, then an introduction of the candidates by the evening's moderator, Madison County Clerk of the Court, Billy Washington. Each candidate had three minutes to introduce themselves before answering four pre-prepared questions. Following that, the candidates answered questions chosen from among questions submitted by Greene Publishing, Inc. readers. Candidates were also given three minutes each for closing remarks.
Those candidates participating were: District One Candidate Merv Mattair, District One Candidate Katie Knight, District Three Incumbent Surretta Bell, District Three Candidate VeEtta Hagan, District Five Candidate Devin Thompson, District Five Candidate George Monreal, District Five Candidate Charles Medders and District Five Candidate Donnell Davis. District One Incumbent Susie Williamson was unable to attend, due to illness. However, she did supply her answers to the prepared questions, which were read by Washington.
The forum was also live streamed on the Greene Publishing, Inc. Facebook page.
A very special “thank you” goes out to the sponsors of the forum. Without their help and assistance, the forum would not have been possible. The sponsors were: Madison County Supervisor of Elections Heath Driggers, Madison Florist, Mom and Pops Odds 'n Ends, MRG Career Apparel and Continental Public Adjusters.
