On Friday, April 23, the Madison County Central School (MCCS) band program held their spring concert, with a little bit of a twist. The concert was dedicated to a former band director for MCCS, Madison High School and later Madison County High School when the school opened, Gary Gazlay.
Gazlay is no stranger to Madison County after helping to lead the high school band to become one of the best and most respected high school bands in the state. It was under Gazlay's leadership that the Madison High School “Music Machine” marching band made its appearance in the 53rd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in 1979. In addition to teaching, Gazlay penned many compositions for school bands. During the concert, the seventh and eighth grade students of the MCCS Concert Band performed several of Gazlay's compositions.
