Also known as Emancipation Day, this date is significant as it marks the anniversary of the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation in Tallahassee, Fla., in 1865. The proclamation officially ended slavery in southern states.  In Madison, the celebration kicks off on Saturday, May 3, with a car wash at Madison County Community Bank, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donati
