On Monday, May 22, 64 golfers from around the area gathered at the Madison Country Club for the 7th Annual B.F. Killingsworth Gator Golf Classic. According to event organizer and grand-daughter of B. F. Killingsworth, Stefanie Thomas, the annual golf tournament is a fundraiser sponsored by the Madison Gator Club in order to fund scholarships to the University of Florida for Madison County residents. Started many years ago by long-time University of Florida supporter, B.F. Killingsworth, as a way of combining Killingsworth's love of golf with his love of the Gators, the tournament has provided scholarship funds for dozens of Madison County residents to attend the University of Florida. When Killingsworth passed away, the tournament was re-named in his honor. Over the years, over $40,000 has been raised for scholarships through the Madison Gator Club. Any Madison County resident planning to attend the University of Florida is encouraged to contact Suzanne Griffin at Madison County High School to apply for one of the Madison Gator Club scholarships.
The first-place gross score team was: Mike Norfleet, Lindsey Fico, Damon Fico, and John Haire. The first-place net team was: Tommy Garner, Ethan Sevor, Chris Miller, and Jim Gaczewski. The second-place net team was: Andrew Hendry, Kyle Whitaker, Jared Lauth, and Jonathan Richardson. The third-place net team was: Mike Ragans, Tom Tuckey, Jeremy Tuckey, and Mark Webb. The closest to the pin award went to Mike Ragans. The longest drive award went to Mike Ragans. The longest putt award went to Bobby Kelly.
“We would like to thank those who played, the sponsors, the Madison Country Club, and the Killingsworth family,” said Thomas.
A brief rain storm did little to dampen the spirits of those gathered and proved that “in all kinds of weather, we'll all stick together for F-L-O-R-I-D-A.”
