Earning the distinction of being the class Valedictorian is not an easy task. Obviously it is something that takes a great deal of effort and hard work. Madison County High School Class of 2022 Valedictorian Abby Ratliff knows well what it takes to reach that pinnacle. However, Ratliff has learned a few lessons along the way about the importance of balance. Lessons she would gladly pass along to younger students. “It's important to focus on success, but you shouldn't let that overtake you,” said Ratliff. “Be happy where you are, but still go somewhere.”
The MCHS senior has already been taking classes at North Florida College (NFC) and plans to finish her Associate of Arts degree, then continue in the nursing program at NFC to eventually become a registered nurse. She has already completed the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) requirements at MCHS through the health sciences program at the school. Participation in this program sparked an interest in the healthcare field. Ratliff had previously considered the veterinary field.
Outside the classroom, Ratliff has played volleyball for the Cowgirls for four years. She has also been a member of the Beta Club, the Future Farmers of America and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Although Ratliff's immediate academic plans are not necessarily going to take her away from Madison, one can bet that her genuine personality and strong work ethic will certainly carry her far in life. Abby is the daughter of Steven and Amy Ratliff.
