The fuss over Father's Day pales in comparison to the glamour and commercialization of Mother's Day. Turn on the television or radio and little to no advertisements appear encouraging consumers to make sure dad feels just as special as mom. Honoring fathers and male influences is important. Saturday, June 17 proved to be a lovely day as the Mr. Esquire Gentlemen of the Nu Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted their first Father's Day Banquet.
Ian Rogers, Jayden Peacock, Kemari Scurry, Sean Williams, and Morgan Scurry, Jr. paid special tribute to their fathers and grandfathers: Devin Akins, Morgan Scurry, Cory Peacock, and Freddie Williams. Dressed in their Mr. Esquire attire, these young men welcomed their audience with charm. "My father teaches me manners and hard work," said Kemari Scurry while honoring his dad Morgan Scurry. Mr. Ernie Sims, Jr., father of former NFL player Ernie Sims III, provided the afternoon address explaining there are no playbooks on fatherhood.
The smooth sounds of Valdosta's "One Accord" jazz band provided just enough melodic sounds to make the event complete. Special thanks to all those who helped sponsor the Mr. Esquire Father's Day Banquet: Valdosta Fazoli’s, Tallahassee's Nuberri, A Country Rose Florist, Uncle Maddios, Esposito’s, Smallcakes, Insomnia Cookies, Wells Fargo, Tasty Pastry, and Massage Envy.
