Allie Juanita O’Quinn Hadden, age 108, passed away on July 10, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Center in the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, Fla.
Allie was born on May 24, 1914, in Tift County, Ga., one of eight children of Lamar and Fannie (Morris) O’Quinn. Allie was an accomplished roller-skater and was a much-sought-after partner at the local roller rink. In 1942, she married David Yates Hadden and they moved to Cairo, Ga., where Yates became the owner of the local Trailways Bus Station. Allie worked as the bookkeeper for Wight Nursery and was honored for her volunteer work for the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo, Ga. For years, Allie and Yates owned one of the first cottages on St. George Island, Fla. They hosted many family gatherings there over the holidays. The cottage now has a historical designation as the Hadden Cottage. Allie was like a second mother to her nieces; Linda Carol Davies Stubbs and Claudette Deese Huddleston, both of whom spent lengthy visits in the summer with Allie and Yates. After retirement, Allie loved taking tours throughout the U.S., especially to Branson, Mo. Allie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Harold Curtis O’Quinn (Margaret Fambro), Willis Lamar “Buddy” O’Quinn (Doris Marchant), Walter Raymond “Pug” O’Quinn (Phyllis Young) and Roy Lee O’Quinn; and sisters: Evelyn Nesbit Mathews (Cyrus), Frances Emily Pokrop (Harold) and Edna Pearl O’Quinn. She is survived by sister-in-law Phyllis O’Quinn and brother-in-law Harold Pokrop; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside ceremony was held on July 12, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, in Tifton, Ga., with Tommy Bussey officiating.
