In 2014, Amber Lee Abbott went on a trip to a music festival at the Lewis Family homestead in Lincolnton, Ga. Little did she know that this trip would help pave the way for Abbott to record her third album. While at the festival, hosted by Southern Gospel music artists, Jeff and Sheri Easter, Abbott learned of a singing competition with the top prize being 10 hours of recording studio time in the Easter's personal recording studio at their home. Abbott decided to enter this contest and see where God would take her. He took her straight to first place in the competition and Abbott immediately began preparing for this opportunity.
Abbott hopes that this third album will help her to develop her own individual musical identity. Abbott feels this newest album is different from her other recording projects and will hopefully be the beginning of her finding her own sound as an expression of who she is. Abbott, along with her husband, Trent, have written five original songs for this new album. Abbott's mother, Angie Lee, helped write two of the original songs for the album. “It's exciting to see how God gives you a song and we create the music and feel of the album,” said Abbott. “I've always wanted to have a distinct sound that captures my love for music and, most importantly, my love for God and His love for us,” Abbott added.
Abbott's first album, an album of country songs, came as a result of Abbott winning a competition when she was 14. She had the most sponsors and was awarded studio time in a recording studio in Knoxville, Tn. When she was 17, Abbott entered into a gospel music competition and was awarded more recording studio time. The resulting album, Abbott's second, was an album of southern gospel music. The release of her second album led to Abbott singing in more churches. Abbott feels that she is being led to explore more opportunities in the gospel music area. “God is really opening doors in that direction,” Abbott said.
Abbott is the daughter of Chris and Angie Lee and grew up in Hamilton County. She has been singing since a very early age when she used to sing with her grandfather's bluegrass band. Since that early age, she has had a love for music and performing, no matter the musical style. After graduating in 2007, she attended the Baptist College of Florida, where she studied music. She now leads the praise team at Suwannee Station Baptist Church in Live Oak each Sunday. In April of 2010, Abbott married Trent Abbott, of Madison, and the couple made their home in Madison. Together they have one daughter, Audrey.
Abbott has started a GoFundMe page where anyone wanting to support her ministry may do so. That address is: https://www.gofundme.com/ml4mzg.
For Abbott, music is not just a hobby or a passion. “[Music is] in your heart. God puts it there and it's what makes you,” said Abbott.
