On Saturday, Aug. 20 and Saturday, Sept. 3, the American Red Cross will be coming to Madison and partnering with the Madison Fire Rescue (MFR) for a Smoke Alarm Installation project.
Representatives from both groups will be going door-to-door inquiring about resident's smoke alarms, as well as offering their service in installing smoke alarms, free of charge, to homes that are not properly equipped.
On Aug. 20, the groups will be covering the neighborhoods south of the fire station, including Georgetown, Jeanette Circle and Oak Estates.
On Sept. 3, they will be going door-to-door in the south and eastern portions of Madison, such as County Camp/Farm Rd., and the Clover Farm neighborhood.
Citizens who want to make sure that they are in line for free smoke alarms and installations may do so by getting in touch with MFR Fire Chief Bruce Jordan by calling (850) 973-5057 or by emailing madisonfirechief@gmail.com.
Inquiring individuals may also contact the Red Cross at (850) 878-3441 or by emailing jacar.mccloud@redcross.org.
If your home does not have the proper number and placing of smoke alarms, or your alarms are nonexistent or broken, don't pass up this free opportunity to have them replaced!
On average, seven people die and 36 are injured every day in a house fire; don't be another statistic.
As well as providing and installing smoke detectors free of charge, the American Red Cross will also provide information about home fire preparedness and help the residents develop an evacuation plan in the event of a fire.
