The second Annual Madison County Chick Chain Show is officially in the books, but not without a crazy 2020. Back in March of this year, plans were being made for the contest to be held in September. However, COVID had different plans for the chick chain project. The decision was made to push the start date from April to May. Each participant received at least six chicks in May. Over the next six months, 4-H members cared for and raised their chicks. Because of COVID restrictions, participants attended two virtual meetings. At the first meeting youth were taught how to prepare for the new chicks. The second meeting focused on preparing and showing the birds.
After several postponed show dates due to COVID and hurricanes, the 2020 Chick Chain Show was held on Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Ag Center in Madison. Twenty-eight 4-H members from Taylor, Lafayette and Madison Counties brought their best birds for the judges. Plans are already in the works for next year's project and show.
