Barney "Junior" Byington, Jr., age 74, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at his home in Greenville, Fla.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, at Beggs Funeral Home, in Madison, Fla. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery, in Greenville. A visitation was held on Saturday night, Jan. 25, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home.
Junior was born in O'Brien, Fla., and was a lifelong resident of Madison County. He was a member of Sirmans Baptist Church in Greenville. Junior proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, receiving a bronze star with the 101st Airborne Division.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Eva and Barney Byington, Sr.; four brothers: Curtis Byington, Gene Byington, Skippy Byington and Roger Byington; and three sisters: Margie Campbell, Virginia Lunceford and Maudie Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Byington, of Greenville; a sister, Beulah "Bootsy" Cone (Jessie "Squeaky" Cone); one step-daughter, Memori McGriff, and husband, Chad McGriff; one step-son, Darren Bass, and wife, Reva Bass; two step-grandsons, Daniel and Matthew Bass; and three step-granddaughters: Adyson McGriff, Ashlynne Hendrix and Emma Greene. He is also survived by his best friend, Johnny Carroll.
