Barry Terry, 61, unexpectedly passed away in his home on Thursday, Jan. 11, in Madison.
Barry was born on Jan. 31, 1956 in Decatur, Al. He had been a resident of Madison since 1998 when he and his family relocated from Central Florida. In 2002, he accepted a position as a Correctional Officer at Madison Correctional Institution, where he worked for more than 13 years before retiring in 2015.
Barry was a great family man, a loving husband, wonderful father and “Papa Bear.” He married Alice Terry on Sept. 24, 1976, and the couple had four children together, eleven grandchildren and one dog he adored, Dixie Girl.
Barry was a simple man. He enjoyed nature, photography and family. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving, intelligent and courageous person.
Barry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Alice Terry, of Madison; his children: Christopher (Katie) Terry, of Madison; Joshua (Tracy) Terry, of Panama City; Timothy (Sarah) Terry, of Madison; and Lisa (Garrett) Terry Parker, of Tallahassee; his grandchildren: Ashton Terry, Alyssa Terry, Kayden Terry, Landon Terry, Jase Terry, Avery Terry, Tyler Vann, all of Madison; Gordan Parker, Gavin Parker and Liliana Parker, all of Tallahassee; and Christian Terry, of Panama City; his mother, Sara Hale; his brothers: Lonnie (Brenda) Terry and Ronnie Terry; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for Barry Terry on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 1440 NE Oats Avenue, in Madison. The service, music, food and remembering the good times will begin at 2 p.m. and a service with military honors will take place at 3 p.m. in honor of his military service.
