Summer sports have finally begun and the Batbusters softball team has already started winning championships.
Josie Driggers, a Madison resident, 2020 Valedictorian of Madison Creative Arts Academy and daughter of Heath and Becky Driggers, is excited for her team to get back into the swing of games this season. Driggers is a pitcher and leadoff slapper for the 14 and under Batbusters, based out of Valdosta, Ga.
In their most recent tournament, Driggers and the Batbusters took home the gold, winning eight games, losing none and tying one. In the final game, they faced an opponent that they knew all too well. They had faced Pro Impact twice already in the tournament, tying with them once and beating them once, only after a seventh inning rally. In the championship game, though, the Batbusters made quick work of Pro Impact, leading them 4-0 most of the game, and finishing off the game 6-0. Driggers pitched the first four innings of the game, giving up zero runs.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game," said Driggers. "We just went out there and started off strong with four runs and kept it going."
Driggers is only fourteen, but she has been playing softball for seven years, and she doesn't plan to stop there. Even at her young age, she already knows that she loves the game and wants to pursue softball in college.
"I just love the competitiveness of the game and the feeling of control when I'm on the mound," said Driggers.
The Batbusters will be in action every weekend until the end of July, finishing out their summer season on Saturday, July 25 in Valdosta.
