Betty Ruth Odom, 75, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 peacefully at home in Madison. Betty was born March 3, 1946 in Madison, to Walter P. Payne and Ruth Woodard Payne.
Betty was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was attending Hickory Grove Methodist Church. Betty worked as a Dispatcher with the Florida Highway Patrol for 27 years and with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for two years and retired after five years with Florida DOT. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with family and friends especially trips to the beach. Betty loved to collect owls and seashells, and was also an avid gardener.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Walter P. (Dub) Payne and Ruth Woodard Payne; and her brother, Phil Payne.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Willie Odom; son, Tony Odom (Kim); grandchildren: Kasey Oliver (Sean), Austin Odom and Amanda Frith (Daryl); and great granddaughter, Kynleigh Oliver; as a well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Macedonia Cemetery, with Bro. Steve McHargue officiating. The family received friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Burns Funeral Home of Madison. All arrangements were under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
