Mother Bobbie Jean Lee Mitchell, 72, of Madison, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. She will be remembered as one who was happiest when others were happy and being most appreciative of kindnesses, great or small, shown to her. Born to Corine McDaniel Herring and Ola Lee, Sr., Bobbie lived her entire life in Madison. Preceding her in death were her parents; siblings: Runette Holmes, Cleo Pullens, Jr., Ola Lee, Jr., James Lee, Sr., Mabelene Lee Phillips, Patricia Lee; and granddaughter, Nevaeh Lee Mitchell.
Celebration of Life Services, with COVID-19 restrictions, were held held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021, in the sanctuary of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 497 SW Georgetown Rd., in Madison. A public viewing and visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021 in the chapel of Tillman of Madison, ~A Hall-Moore Provider~, (850) 973-6677, 379 W. Base St., in Madison. Earthly Bed of Slumber: Mt. Nebo Church Cemetery, in Greenville.
Bobbie was a 1968 graduate of Suwannee River High School, formerly Madison County Training School. She later received certifications and trainings in childcare and food services which prepared her for employment with Kids Incorporated of the Big Bend and Madison County Central School cafeteria before her retirement.
Bobbie was married to Willie “Bollie” Mitchell for nearly 40 years. They were both hard workers who shared common interests, especially in their service to the Lord. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at Jeslamb A.M.E. Church earlier in life. She later joined Willie in active membership at Mt. Nebo A.M.E. Church. Bollie was the Church School Superintendent and Bobbie was the Church School Teacher for carloads of youth she brought to church. She was regarded as the unofficial choir director who encouraged and directed from the pew. Her other responsibility was being on the finance committee, but she also assisted in any other task that needed to be done. She later joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Madison.
Bobbie assumed the role as the Lee family matriarch. She lovingly called everybody “baby” and encouraged good behavior of all, regardless of age. Bobbie loved to cook and to host family gatherings, especially during the holidays. Their home was always open for fellowship, food and fun. Then, as on any other given casual day, she was expected to wear her signature attire - baseball cap, jeans and sneakers.
Among her many past time enjoyments were gardening and growing flowers, especially daylilies and sunflowers, reading the Bible and listening to Gospel music, working puzzles, watching her favorite television shows: “Judge Judy,” “Touched By an Angel,” “Family Feud,” “In the Heat of the Night,” and “Wheel of Fortune.”
Forever cherishing her life, legacy and love are her loving husband, Willie Mitchell, Jr.; sons: Duwayne Henry of Panama City, Fla., Tyrone Mitchell and Vicenta Mitchell, Sr., both of Madison, Fla.; special daughters, Charita Hamilton of Greenville, Fla. and D’Shashonwa Boykins of Madison, Fla.; brothers: Monroe Lee of Perry, Fla., Alton Lee of Madison, Fla. and Ricky Lee of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Eloise Siplin and Nancy Gallon, both of Madison, Fla.; grandchildren: Johnniethiea Boykins and Vicenta Mitchell, Jr.; great-grandchild, I’Zealus Robinson; brothers-in-law: Harrison Mitchell, Kenneth (Gladys” Mitchell) Sr. and Michael (Angela) Mitchell, Sr.; sisters-in-law: Pastor Emma Barfield, Nora Cummings, Patricia (Lewis) Jones and Ella Mae McQuay; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, many other loving relatives and sorrowing friends.
