Bobby James Rye, age 75, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021 in Valdosta, Ga. He was born in Madison County to Berry and Myrtice Hicks Rye on August 26, 1945.
He lived most of his life in Madison County. He attended Midway Baptist Church when he was younger and Clyattville Baptist Church later on. He lived in Jacksonville and later moved back to Madison County.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a greyhound farm manager. Bobby loved to read. He loved horses and dogs, and he also loved fishing. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tammy Knight; and two brothers: Benny Rye and Barton Rye; and one sister, Barbara Rye.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Lonette Rye of Lee; one son, Darren Rye (Kim) of Jasper, Fla.; one daughter, Deanna Phillips (John), of Lee; two sisters, Betty Hunter of Vero Beach, Fla. and Belinda Chason of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren: Darren James Rye, Jr. of Jasper, Fla., Ethan Rye of Jasper, Fla., Haley Phillips of Lee, Cailbre Johnson of Lee, Will Phillips of Lee and Gracelyn Phillips of Lee. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Corinth Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, in Madison.
