I’m just a girl from the suburbs of Philadelphia now residing in Madison. So, as you can safely assume, I’m about to talk about my Philadelphia Eagles' recent Super Bowl victory, bridging the miles between my past and present. The Eagles' commanding 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday, not only secured their second Vince Lombardi Trophy, but also rekindled a profound sense of hometown pride for all us Eagles fans even from afar.
The victory was a testament to the team's resilience and skill. Quarterback Jalen Hurts delivered an MVP-worthy performance, completing 77.3 percent of his passes and scoring three touchdowns. Running back Saquon Barkley, celebrating his 28th birthday and Cornerback Cooper DeJean, also celebrating his 22nd birthday on Sunday, Feb-8, both contributed significantly, marking their first Super Bowl title on their birthdays.
Celebrating this win from afar underscores the unifying power of sports. Despite the distance from Philadelphia, the victory fostered a renewed connection to my roots. It serves as a reminder that while I may have ventured south, the spirit of Philadelphia remains ever-present, especially in moments of shared triumph. My family and I had even discussed pulling the kids from school and making the 14 hour drive to take them to the parade in Philly. It’s looking unrealistic, however we’re not too worried about missing it this time, simply because we are confident in the new Eagles era this team is in and their ability to get back and win another Super Bowl championship again soon.
So if you see someone around town in an Eagles green shirt, with kids who won’t stop chanting “Go Birds,” it’s probably me and mine. Just let us have our moment, while we affirm that the spirit of Philadelphia thrives, even under the Florida sun. Time to head south to Clearwater to watch our Phillies spring training!
