Scott Adams, the owner of Adams Ranch, grew up in Citrus County, Fla., gathering eggs starting at eight-years-old. This was the last thing he wanted to do after coming home from school and wanted to get away from it as quickly as possible. By ninth grade, Adams had quit school and wanted to pursue a different course of life on his own. He began in the world of landfill, and eventually created a large landfill operation that allowed him to begin fulfilling other goals, starting with land purchasing. Over the years, Adams has been able to purchase and essentially piece back together the land that his family owned, mixed with several other properties of important environmental value.
“I was able and lucky enough to come back and buy my family's original ranch and expand operations drastically,” stated Adams. This expansion came from his knowledge in both the landfill and environmental worlds, which made him extremely well-rounded on both sides of the topics. The land that he owns is being used for his Purebred Brahma and F/1 commercial cow calf operation business, which takes place in various land across the state of Florida. On top of this business, Adams has created a sanctuary-like setting, especially near the Aucilla river. The Aucilla Corridor project has been recognized by Florida Forever and various governmental and environmental groups, which has been set in place to maintain the naturally occurring events in the area as well as keep the springs efficiently flowing to the river.
“I don't even hunt the deer on this land. It would be hard to kill them since they are basically allowed on my back porch,” said Adams. “Hogs and animals that destroy the land are one thing, but I would rather conserve the deer and other animals that are perfectly fine how they are.” Adams also owns one of the largest private lakes in Citrus County, which totals about 102 acres, and is filled with bat caves. This a
rea has also been featured in Florida Forever, and is his other main sanctuary-type land.
Upon discussing various environmental 'norms' and stereotypes with Adams, it was noted that he is considered one of the few who put the environment as a priority in all of his properties. Through his years in various agricultural businesses and his political backgrou
nd, Adams has been able to efficiently identify how operations affect others and how to plan for the best course of action. With the help of his colleagues, Adams has taken part in several projects and successful business interactions regarding environmental conservation as well as his cattle.
Adams Ranch has had a successful run in various areas of Florida due to the hard work and dedication put in by Scott Adams and his staff. “Doing the right thing” has been Adams' goal for his business and as the years pass by he is proud of the effect his business has had on protecting the environment and bringing joy to his customers through cattle.
