Monthly, The Alzheimer's Project of Tallahassee visits Madison County for the purpose of conducting a dementia caregiver support group every Third Wednesday of the month. However, due to the on-going concerns of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Laura Kelly, rural outreach case manager of The Alzheimer's Project, is announcing the meeting scheduled for today, Wednesday, March 18, will proceed virtually.
Between the hours of 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., call in to caregiver support group by dialing (712) 770-4010. Use PIN No. 574957 to gain access into the meeting. "I would like to encourage anyone who could use the extra support and encouragement to call in," said Kelly. "It's a great way to share and relieve some stress and get ideas about how to manage from other caregivers."
This open and compassionate group normally meets at the Senior Citizens Council of Madison County, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Upholding the motto of "caring for yourself so you can take better care of your love one," this support group allows caregivers to discuss concerns, stressors and related topics with other caregivers that only caregivers understand."
According to their web page, The Alzheimer's Project is a non-profit organization based out of Tallahassee, Fla., providing comfort, support and assistance to persons with memory disorders and their caregivers across the Big Bend region. One of their ultimate goals consists of helping caregivers sustain a healthy quality of life as they care for their loved one and to provide a comfortable, dignified, quality of life for people living with dementia.
"We are here to support our caregivers however we can, especially during this extra challenging time," Kelly added.
