Carolyn Elizabeth Edwards, 90, of Madison died on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at her home.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Howell Edwards; a daughter, Elizabeth Spradley (Jack) of Jacksonville, Fl.; a son, William Howell Edwards, Jr. (Diane) of Marietta, Ga.; three beloved grandsons: Daniel Edwards of Smyna, Ga., David Edwards of Atlanta, Ga., and Will Edwards of Jacksonville, Fl.; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, Lamar and Mary Adams and a brother, David Adams, preceded her in death.
Carolyn was born in Leesburg, Fl. and graduated from Leesburg High School. She received her B.S. degree from Florida Southern College and her Masters degree from the University of Florida.
She taught at Wildwood High School from 1946-1950 and at Madison High School from 1950 until she retired in 1982. She touched the lives of hundreds of students during her teaching career.
She was a faithful member of Madison First Baptist Church, Madison Woman's Club, Madison Garden Club and Delta Kappa Gamma International Society. She enjoyed gardening, painting with watercolor and oils, playing bridge, and handwork, especially hardanger and tatting.
Visitation was held on Monday, Feb. 27 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Beggs Chapel. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at First Baptist Church of Madison. Internment followed at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
