Mrs. Hassie Clemons Glee will celebrate her 104th birthday on Saturday, July 31, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Glee was born in Greenville, in 1917. She is the seventh of 10 children born to Tony and Cornelia Clemons. Twenty years later, in 1937, she married Ulysses Glee, Sr. (deceased) and the two of them worked hard for over 67 years to establish what is now known as Glee Heritage Acres. To this union, six children were born: Evelyn, Lueva, Rose (deceased), Verdell, Ulysses, Jr. and James. She is also blessed to have an adopted daughter, Carrie Washington. She has seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Before she was stricken with Alzheimer's Disease, on any given day you could find her sitting on her front porch watching the cars go by, reminiscing about her church and pastor, farming, family and the days of long ago. She is best known around Madison as the "Pie Lady".
Mrs. Glee is the oldest member of her church, New Chapel M.B. Church of Madison, where she also attended school and continued to serve until her health failed.
The family is not receiving guests, but you're welcome to drive by 181 NW St. Luke Church Loop, in Madison and "honk your horn".
