Approximately 12.6 percent of the world’s population drink coffee daily. National Coffee Day is celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 29, annually after the first shipment of coffee from Brazil was delivered to the U.S. in 1723. The most popular coffee drinks around the world consist of: Cappuccino’s, Espresso’s, Black coffee, Americano’s and Mocha’s.
Cappuccino
Cappuccinos consist of a bottom layer of one or two espresso shots, a second layer of steamed milk on top and is then followed by a thick layer of foam. Cappuccinos originate from Italy. This drink can decrease the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, cirrhosis, diabetes and weight management and is also known for improving your mood.
Americano
This coffee is just an espresso and water. Americanos were created after American GIs stationed in Italy, during WWII, were trying to make coffee like back home. The traditional Italian espresso was too bitter so cafe owners started watering down their cappuccinos for American troops. Americanos are known to support your metabolism and well-being and contain antioxidants to help decrease the chance of developing chronic diseases.
Mocha
Mochas can contain a shot of espresso combined with chocolate powder or syrup and milk or cream. This coffee originates from Yemen, where the beans were first grown. Depending on the type of chocolate used mocha coffee can offer various benefits. These health benefits include: energy and mood boost, antioxidant power and an increased brain function.
