Charles Augustus Wooten, 88, went to Heaven on April 23, 2020. He was born in Brewton, Ala., on April 5, 1932, to Herman and Sarah (McCraney) Wooten. He was predeceased in death by his parents; a brother, Bronzo Wooten; sisters: Verna Lee Williams, Versie Waddell and Voncile Rosenberger; and daughter, Deborah Walton.
He was survived by his loving wife, Peggy Wooten; two sons: Charles Wooten, Jr. (Bonnie) and Herbert (Phyllis) Wooten, of Oahu, Hawaii; two daughters: Denise Cawthorn and Rhonda Smithey, of California; stepsons: Todd (Barbara) O'Guin, Stockton, Ga.; Alan (Stephanie) O'Guin, Rome, Ga.; Jayme (Jolene) O'Guin, Burbank, Calif.; twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Kelley Mayo, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was an insurance salesman for American National in California. Charles was a faithful witness for Jesus Christ to many people.
There will be a private graveside service on May 4, 2020, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steve McHargue officiating. At a later date, a celebration memorial for Charles will be held at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.
