At the regularly scheduled County Commission meeting on July 22, by proclamation, the Commissioners unanimously proclaimed Sunday, August 9, 2015, as Charles W. Evans Sr. Day. The proclamation, signed by the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, Ronnie Moore, recognized the contributions of Reverend Charles W. Evans Sr., to the Madison communities, as the Pastor of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church and his profession as a licensed Pharmacist. Reverend Evans is a notable community servant that has taken the liberty of speaking to the health and welfare of all community citizens and has been a leading proponent in promoting harmony among all people. He is surely one of God's chosen messengers tasked with the spiritual obligation to teach, preach and demonstrate the goodness, mercies, forgiveness and the love of God through his daily living. His commendable outreach to bring about changes in the spiritual lives of the needy, the poor and those that seek a closer walk with God in this earthly ministry labels him an asset. Reverend Evans is the longest sitting pastor at Mt. Zion Madison. He and his family are beginning their 17th year of service. On Sunday, August 9, 2015, an appreciation service to honor him and his family will be held at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church Madison, beginning at 3 p.m. Reverend Delvin Boatman will be the speaker of the hour. The Mt. Zion family is inviting all community members that aspire to show their appreciation to be in attendance. Dinner will be served after the celebration.
