The City of Madison Commissioners had several items to discuss at the monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. The commissioners voted unanimously to become corporate partners with Saint Leo University. This partnership comes with no financial obligation to the city but offers a 10 percent discount on tuition to city employees and a waived application fee. The city’s responsibility is to promote Saint Leo University’s education opportunity to their employees through brochures and newsletters. The commissioners had previously approved an agreement to lease 11 laptops for the Madison Police Department, however, after review by City Attorney Clay Schnitker it was decide that it was not in the best interest of the city. The commissioners voted unanimously to lease to own 11 laptops through American Financial Partners. The commissioners voted unanimously to adopt a sick leave transfer program for city employees. Employees may now voluntarily donate sick leave time to another employee who has utilized all their available leave time. The commissioners also voted to place a moratorium on water and wastewater impact fees and agreed to sell 40 acres of city property for $51,000. The city commission will have a special meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. to read the ordinance to place a moratorium on water and wastewater impact fees.
