The City of Madison Commissioners voted 3-2 to sell 40 acres of wooded land to Jimmie Ragans for $51,000 plus the attorney’s fees, filing fees and any other related fees at the meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Mayor Judy Townsend and Commissioner Rayne Cooks voted against the sale of the land. Commissioner Jim Catron pointed out that the city is not utilizing the property at the moment and the $51,000 could help the city's financial situation. Commissioner Cooks stated that the offer was too low and suggested that the city put the property out for bid instead of taking the first offer. The land is located at 687 SW Industrial Extension. Ragan intention for the property is to raise timber. Twenty-seven of the acres are located in a flood prone area. The property is valued at $51,000. The sale is not finalized until Ragans agrees to the terms.
