Clarice Hewiett Kelley, age 79, passed away on Saturday, July 9, at her home in Lee, Fla., after a long, content and happy life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister to those she loved.
Clarice married the love of her life, P.F. Kelley Jr., in 1962. From this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Angie and devoted their life to rearing her, loving and caring for their grandchildren, Bryant and Kelley Ann and their beloved dog, Brownie. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her extended family and maintaining a beautiful flower and vegetable garden. She was of the Baptist Faith and a member of Lee First Baptist Church, where she expressed her love for music through singing in the choir and often singing solo. Clarice retired from the Madison County School District after 35 years of service at Lee Elementary and Madison High School, where she impacted the lives of both younger and older children alike. She was preceded in death by her parents, Axsom and Eva Hewiett and her husband, P.F. Kelley Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Angie Howell and husband, Bill; two grandchildren, Bryant and Kelley Ann Howell, all of Mayo; three brothers: J.C. Hewiett, Willard Hewiett and Larry Hewiett; three sisters: Delores O'Steen, Linda Nichols and Lois Hewiett; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 14, in the Burns Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Bro. Gary Abbott officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Baptist Cemetery, in Hamilton County. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, July 13. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home, of Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Madison Special Needs Fund care of Big Bend Hospice.
