On Friday, June 23, Career Source of North Florida and the American Legion Post 224, from Cherry Lake, sponsored an event called “Coffee With a Vet,” at Norris Cafe, in downtown Madison. This event was meant to be a way of informing area veterans of the services available to them, especially through Career Source of Florida.
According to Charles Fulmer, Veterans Services Representative with Career Source of North Florida, it is hoped to have similar events periodically, perhaps once a month, in order to keep area veterans informed of services and issues affecting veterans. “We are striving to use a holistic approach,” said Fulmer. “We not only want to help Veterans find employment, but we also want to help them receive needed health care, etc.,” said Fulmer. “All of that goes hand in hand.”
One of those on hand for the event was William Huff, Grassroots Engagement Director for Concerned Veterans for America. Huff spoke about the efforts to expand community care for veterans. The term “community care” refers to allowing veterans to utilize services outside the Veteran’s Administration if it is in the best interest of the Veteran to do so.
