The stands at Lanier Field were filled with football fans as the Madison County Youth Football League kicked off its season on Saturday, Aug. 28. The heat and humidity did little to dampen the spirits of the family and friends who gathered to cheer on the excited youngsters who made up the various teams of the Madison Colts who were squaring off against the MOT Cowboys, from Jacksonville, Fla. All four games were won by the Cowboys, but the Colts 12 and up group fared very well in their game, losing by a score of 22-8. The MOT Cowboys are 10-time national champions.
An added bonus to the exciting games were the delicious hotdogs and hamburgers available at the newly constructed concession stand. Commissioner David Plummer was pleased with the turnout and all the hard work the coaches and volunteers put in to making opening day a success.
The Colts will travel to Valdosta to face the Winnersville Wolves on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Colts will return home on Saturday, Sept. 25, to do battle with the Georgia Flames. The first game begins at 10 a.m. Come out to Lanier Field and show your support for your favorite group of youngsters.
