Madison County Sheriff David Harper announced last week in a news release of an executed search warrant resulting in the arrest of Brittany Hicks. This was related to a series of drug investigations during the past months conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigative Unit. Sheriff Harper further announced that these investigations were directed at specific locations and residences involved in the illegal sale and distribution of controlled substances.
On Wednesday, May 24, Sheriff Harper reported that two additional search warrants were obtained for the following residences. The first was a residence located at 335 SE Balboa Drive, Lot #116 in the Quail Hollow Mobile Home Park in Madison County. The second residence was located within the Hilltop Apartment complex and addressed as 248 SW Safari Drive apartment # 1405, in Madison.
The search warrants were executed on Tuesday, May 23, by the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, joined with other Sheriff’s Office members. The first search warrant was executed at the residence located at 335 SE Balboa Drive, Lot #116 in the Quail Hollow Mobile Home Park in Madison County. During the execution of the search warrant, the only occupants present were the suspect’s girlfriend and juvenile child. The suspect and target of the investigation is Lawyer Renard West, B/M, DOB: 01/01/1987 that lives at the residence but was not present.
The search discovered controlled substances without prescription, synthetic drugs, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, other unidentified substances believed to be MDMA (ecstasy) and a loaded .25 caliber pistol. The Sheriff’s Office Special Investigative Unit has further submitted the possible MDMA (ecstasy) to the FDLE Crime Lab and upon the confirmation of the lab results will determine the additional charges to be filed on West.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Investigative Unit have submitted probable cause affidavits to the Third Circuit State Attorney’s Office to obtain Arrest Warrants for Lawyer Renard West, B/M, DOB: 01/01/1987 for the following charges:
1. Possession Controlled substances without prescription
2. Possession marijuana
3. Possession drug paraphernalia
On this same morning of Tuesday, May 23, the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team joined with other Sheriff’s Office members, departed the first location, and immediately went to the second location at the Hilltop Apartment Complex addressed as 248 SW Safari Drive apartment # 1405 in Madison and executed the second search warrant. The Special Investigative Unit, prior to the search warrant had obtained two arrest warrants for the target of the investigation, James Earl Hampton Jr. During the execution of the search warrant, the target of the investigation was located within the residence and immediately taken into custody.
The search discovered marijuana, controlled substances without prescription (oxycodone), Alpha PVP (street name Flakka), drug paraphernalia and other unidentified substances believed to be MDMA (ecstasy).
The Sheriff’s Office Special Investigative Unit, again, has further submitted the possible MDMA (ecstasy) to the FDLE Crime Lab and upon the confirmation of the lab results will determine the additional charges to be filed on Hampton.

1. 1ct. Possession Marijuana intent to sell
2. 1ct. Possession intent to sell controlled substance (Oxycodone)
3. 1ct. Possession intent to sell Synthetic narcotic (Alpha PVP -Flakka)
4. 1ct. Possession drug paraphernalia/equipment.
Sheriff Harper commends his Special Investigative Unit, his SWAT team, and members of the Sheriff’s Office for the successful investigation(s) and execution of search warrants resulting in the arrest of these criminals for their illegal business and drug activity in Madison County. Sheriff Harper reiterates that these investigation(s) continue and to those that continue this illegal activity and business in Madison that it will not be tolerated and “stand by” because we will be coming, and we will take you to jail.
