Corrence Ray (Shorty) Fields, Sr., 86, of Pinetta, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, at Madison County Memorial Hospital, in Madison. He was born Aug. 13, 1931, in Hahira, to the late Leslie L. Fields and Vera (Webb) Fields.
Mr. Fields attended school in Hahira and at Valdosta State College prior to working and retiring from the Owens-Illinois paper mill after 42 years as a lab technician. During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time with family, working on his farm, tending to his cows and riding horses. He was a faithful and active member of Pinetta Baptist Church.
Along with his parents, Fields is preceded in death by two brothers: Lloyd Fields and Derry Fields; and a sister, Virginia Garrison.
Survivors include the one true love of his life for 37 years, the mother of his children and best friend, Wanda Cowart Fields Griffin; one daughter, Carol Fields (Johnny Sansberry); son, Ray (Kathy) Fields; two granddaughters: Dayna (Blaine Hendrick) Fields and Kimberly (Michael Mills) Fields; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 12 p.m., at Shiloh United Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to services at the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Pinetta Baptist Church, of Pinetta.
