Current Madison County High School (MCHS) junior, Jonathan Akins, has received the first of what could be several offers from college football programs from across the country. This first one coming from the Troy University Trojans, in Troy, Ala. Akins is a threat on both sides of the ball, having played defensive back and receiver for the Cowboys. He also returned kicks during both his junior and sophomore seasons. During his junior season, he had 19 pass receptions for 296 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he had 33 total tackles, three interceptions and 10 passes defended. He also ran two punts back for touchdowns. “[Akins] started 29 straight games at ice corner and has lined up against the other team's best [wide receiver] every time, by himself on an island,” said MCHS Head Coach Mike Coe. “[He gave up] one touchdown in those 29 games. [He] returns punts and kickoffs and does damage with the ball in his hands on offense as well. Most of all, he is an absolutely fantastic young man.” Akins is also a talented member of the Cowboys' varsity basketball squad. So far this season, he is averaging 8.3 points per game with 2.4 rebounds per game. He is the son of Jonathan Akins, Sr. and Monica Kelly.
Could this Cowboy become a Trojan?
