Council “Luther” Pickels, 73, of Monticello, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 1, 2016 while surrounded by his family at home.
He was born May 21, 1943 in Monticello to Pauline and Robert Pickels.
Luther grew up in Greenville, and worked at the Florida Plywood Mill in Greenville and later attended and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Accounting and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant.
He worked at the Jefferson County Kennel Club for over 30 years. He also maintained his own private CPA practice in Monticello for over 25 years. He was an avid golfer, loved fishing with his children and grandchildren and he treasured time spent with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Pickels; his mother, Pauline Pickels; and his sisters, Bobby Jean Scott (Alec) and Ida Jane Cone (Tommy).
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Pickels; as well as his sister, Beth Kinsey (Roy); his children: Lynn Stockton, Robert Pickels, Tracy Dailey, Sarah Booth, Matthew Dailey, Joshua Dailey, and Travis Dailey; and his 12 grandchildren: Christopher, Kaitlyn, Luke, Brayden, Ashton, Bradley, Jordan, Arabella, Emma Grace, Stella Kate, Kailani, and Maverick.
A memorial service will be held at the Monticello Opera House on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Baptist Church in Aucilla, Fl., the First United Methodist Church in Port St. Joe Fl., and The Hang Tough Foundation for Childhood Cancer or a favorite charity of your choice.
