On Wednesday, April 8, at the Madison Courthouse Annex, the Board of County Commissioners came together for their bi-monthly meeting. After the agenda was adopted, minutes were approved and the agenda was consented, it was time for department reports. None but Public Works had a report. Lonnie Thigpen addressed the board and informed them of the construction projects which would soon begin on Cattail Drive, Whippoorwill Drive and Oak Hill Road. Next, unfinished business included discussing what to do with the old Greenville library. Board member, Wayne Vickers, made a motion to begin a sealed bid process. He was seconded by Board member Alfred Martin. The commissioners voted unanimously to carry out the bidding process. Next, it was time for new business. Recently, Emergency Management Director, Tom Cisco, requested the fire district map be changed in order to correct problems which have occurred in the past, including volunteer fire departments answering calls in their district that could have been easily answered by volunteer fire departments closer in location. The Board had instructed that a new map be configured. At Wednesday's meeting, the new map was ready to be approved. Considering the cost of the map change would be approximately $750 and funds were available in the fire reserves, the Board voted unanimously to approve the new changes presented at the current meeting. Lastly, Commissioner Rick Davis informed the Board that the Town of Lee had accepted the property from Wells Fargo which, at the last Commission meeting, the Board had agreed to accept on the condition the Town of Lee did not want it. The next County Commission meeting is Wednesday, April 22, at 4 p.m., at the Madison Courthouse Annex, room 107.
