During a signing ceremony in front of family, friends, coaches and teammates, Madison County High School (MCHS) senior, Jamie “Buck” Hampton, Jr., inked his name on the dotted line to continue his athletic and academic career at Ft. Valley State University (FVSU), in Ft. Valley, Ga.
Hampton had several offers from which to choose, including Clark Atlanta University, Seton Hill and Wilmington University. “Ft. Valley just felt like home,” said Hampton. “The coaches and everybody were very welcoming and I liked the wide open spaces, just like home.” Hampton said he plans to study mechanical engineering while at FVSU.
During his career at MCHS, Hampton proved himself to be a tough competitor. “One thing that will guarantee Buck's success at the next level, and beyond, is the fact that, even when things didn't go well, he never passed the blame to someone else,” said MCHS Head Coach Price Harris. “He always looked to himself to find ways to improve.” While he played for the Cowboys, Hampton had a total of 2,189 yards rushing and 1,139 yards of passing from the quarterback position. He had 16 rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns to his credit. Hampton also helped lead the Cowboys to a state championship during his junior season. Hampton was also a standout basketball player for the Cowboys.
Hampton is the son of Jamie Hampton, Sr. and Amber Williams.
