On Friday, March 3, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys took a trip north across the state line to Vacaldosta to face the Wildcats of Valdosta High School on the baseball diamond. Despite out-hitting the 'Cats, the Cowboys were edged by the home team, 2-0.
The Wildcats went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, setting up a classic pitcher's duel for the remainder of the contest. The Cowboys had several scoring opportunities, but were unable to bring base runners home.
Kyler Richie, Evan Lago, Josh Watts, Parker Copeland and Gavin Bass each registered hits for the Cowboys.
Parker Copeland and Thad Lawson split time on the pitcher's mound for the Cowboys, giving up three hits, one earned run, four walks and striking out 10 batters.
The Cowboys were scheduled to have a rematch with the Wildcats on Friday, March 10, but the game was rained out.
The Cowboys will host the Bozeman High School Bucks, from Panama City, Fla. on Wednesday, March 15. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
