Before his final regular season game as a Cowboy, Madison County High School senior Tre Adams admitted that he was nervous. Not so much about the game itself, he was nervous about the pre-game Senior Night ceremony. It had been a big week for Adams. Earlier in the week, he had signed a letter of intent to play football for Georgia Southern University. But that was earlier in the week. Tonight there was a game to be played. But first, there was a ceremony to be enjoyed. That kind of focus on the task at hand is indicative of this Cowboys team. Coach Allen Demps, much like head football coach Mike Coe, is careful not to allow the players' focus to get too far into the future, or dwell in the past. That philosophy served the Cowboys well on Friday, Feb. 9 when they faced the Red Devils of Williston High School. The Cowboys were coming into the game having dropped two games in a row, something that had not happened since the 2015-16 season. Focus on the task at hand was going to be crucial if the Cowboys wanted to go into the Class 1A, District 5 tournament with any momentum. Once the pre-game Senior Night ceremony concluded, that task turned to the Red Devils.

The game stayed relatively close during the opening quarter with the Cowboys holding a 15-11 advantage at the end of the first period. The Cowboys opened up their lead and by halftime they had a 31-19 advantage. Not content to sit back, the Cowboys opened the second half by going on a 16-2 scoring run. By the end of the third period, the Cowboys were firmly in control with a double digit, 49-24 lead. From there, the Cowboys cruised to a 59-32 final score.

It was certainly a special evening for MCHS senior Bailey Browning as he played his final regular season game as a Cowboy. Pictured, from left to right, are: Judge Bailey Browning (father), Bailey Browning, Riley Browning (sister) and Coach Allen Demps.
Travis Jay led the Cowboys in scoring with 17 points and 13 rebounds for another double-double. Ken Hawkins and Christopher Simmons each had eight points. Adams scored six points for the Cowboys. Marvin Alexander, Patrick Hampton, Demarvious Brown, Darius Johnson and Bailey Browning also added to the Cowboys scoring total.
