With the opening week game being declared a “no contest” thanks to a pair of lightning delays, it could be seen as a “blessing in disguise.” The Cowboys are set to rebound against the Cougars of Godby High School, in Tallahassee.
It has been said that many teams see their biggest improvement between the first and second game of the season. For many in Cowboy Nation, that is definitely exactly what is hoped for. During what was a shortened week of preparation, due to Hurricane Idalia, Coach Harris and crew have been working hard to address some areas of possible improvement. With that being said, there were some encouraging signs from the opening bout with Carrollwood School. Strong running from running back Jason McDaniel helped put the Cowboys in scoring position during the second quarter of that contest. Now, the Cowboys will need to find a way to cash in on those opportunities. If the Cowboys can do that and avoid mental errors, they should have a reasonable chance of success.
The Cougars do have some size on their front and the Cowboys will need to step up their game up front in order to take control of the game. One area the Cowboys showed some vulnerability in was allowing opposing runners to get to the outside. The Cowboys defense will need to work hard to seal off the outside in order to force plays to remain between the hash marks.
The contest is being played on the campus of Godby High School, located at 1717 W Tharpe St., in Tallahassee. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at gofan.co.
