This Friday’s game in Brunswick, Ga. will be a welcome opportunity for the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys to get a sense of normalcy once again. This season has been anything but normal for the Cowboys. Their opening contest was cut short just shy of halftime, due to weather delays. Then a hurricane named Idalia marched through town, causing widespread destruction and disruption to everyone’s lives. The game in Tallahassee against Godby High School, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 1, was cancelled. Today’s game will be the first opportunity the Cowboys have for playing a complete game this season. The Cowboys will face a slight change in that they are scheduled to play a mid-afternoon contest against an opponent from across the state line.
In its second year, the annual “Border Wars” will pit high school programs from North Florida against programs from South Georgia. This year’s contest for the Cowboys will be a rematch of last season’s match-up with the Purple Hurricane of Fitzgerald, which ended in a 20-12 Purple Hurricane win. This year’s contest looks to be another good one. The Purple Hurricane comes into the contest with a 2-1 record, having lost to Northeast High School from Macon, 27-20, on Friday, Sept. 1. The Cowboys will be facing another very big front seven with two linemen topping 300 pounds. The Purple Hurricane uses that big line to set up a dangerous rushing attack for a backfield that can put up big numbers. In their 43-21 win over Turner County, the Purple Hurricane racked up 373 yards on the ground. The Cowboys will have to work hard to keep the Purple Hurricane from hitting the edge and racing down the sidelines.
The game is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 8, at Glynn County Stadium, in Brunswick, Ga. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m..
