The Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys have been working hard to get better with each passing week. The goal is to be peaking at just the right time as the playoffs approach. Part of that growth plan has been to play bigger schools late in the season in order to challenge the players. This week's opponent should play into that plan very well.
The Cowboys had originally scheduled a contest with the Bears of Pierce County High School, in Blackshear, Ga. on Friday, Oct. 30. However due to problems with the COVID-19 virus at Pierce County High School, the game had to be cancelled. This left the MCHS Head Coach Mike Coe scrambling to find an opponent for the final week of the regular season. It was important to find a suitable opponent to play, since the Cowboys have a bye week during the opening week of the Class 1A football tournament. Going two weeks without a game could have a detrimental effect on the team in terms of continuity.
Soon after the game was cancelled, another game was scheduled. The Cowboys will finish this year's regular season on the road with a game against the Bulldogs of Flagler Palm Coast High School. According to Coach Coe, the Cowboys will face a big team, from a big school. "[Flagler is a] really big school with really big athletes," said Coach Coe. "This game will test our mettle and help us get better for the playoffs. The only way to get better is to play good people and they are well coached and play a physical brand of football."
The Cowboys will face the Bulldogs of Flagler Palm Coast High School on Friday, Oct. 30, at Flagler Palm Coast High School. The school is located at 5500 E. Hwy. 100, in Palm Coast, Fla. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
