The Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys have a chance to put a positive end to this year's football season. The final regular-season game for this season is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, at Boot Hill Stadium, against the Raiders of Rickards High School.
With the Class 1R Region Three tournament set to begin next week, the Cowboys will likely be “road warriors” during their playoff run. The brackets for the state playoffs will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 6, by the Florida High School Athletic Association. All eight teams in Region Three will be in the tournament. With a win, the Cowboys could improve their seeding in the tournament and possibly secure at least one home game during the tournament.
But, before the Cowboys can think about the Region Tournament, they have to take care of the Raiders from Rickards High School. The Cowboys' defensive unit will certainly have their hands full with the well-balanced offensive attack of the Raiders. The Raiders are averaging 187 yards per game through the air and 143 yards per game on the ground. The Raiders have only thrown four interceptions this year and have not lost a fumble yet. Defensively, the Raiders average 2.3 quarterback sacks per game and have a total of 16 quarterback hurries.
As if improving their playoff standing were not motivation enough for the Cowboys, this will also be Senior Night. No doubt, the seniors on the football team will want to finish their playing time on Boot Hill with a win. The Senior Night ceremony, honoring the seniors on the football team, cheerleading squad and band will take place just prior to the game.
“I do not believe we can miss the playoffs,” said the Cowboys' Head Coach Price Harris. “That being said, we plan on winning and that should propel us into hosting a playoff game.” Kickoff for the Cowboys vs. Raiders game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at Boot Hill Stadium, located on the MCHS campus.
