If the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys are to achieve their goal of winning a fourth straight state championship, it will have to be done on the road. The remaining playoff games for the Cowboys will all be on the road. The first of the Cowboys' "road stops" will be in Hillard, as the Cowboys take on the Red Flashes of Hilliard High School in the Class 1A Region Three semi-final on Friday, Nov. 20.
The Red Flashes are coming into the contest with an unblemished record of 8-0. Last week, the Red Flashes edged Lafayette High School, 22-21, in their Region Three quarter final game on Friday, Nov. 13. The Red Flashes will surely present a challenge for the Cowboys, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The Flashes have scored an average of close to 35 points per game this season. Covering Jason Sheffield a 6’4” wide receiver for the Flashes will be a tall order for the Cowboys' secondary. The match-up between Zarrion Robinson or Zechariah Jones and Sheffield will be fun to watch throughout the game. Another weapon the Flashes have in their offensive arsenal is running back Tywuan Lee. Lee averages nine yards every time he totes the ball and already has 11 touchdowns to his credit this season. “They’re undefeated for a reason.” said MCHS Head Coach Mike Coe.
The winner of this contest will move on to face the winner of the Ft. White vs. Union County game to determine the Region Three champ. The game between the Cowboys and the Red Flashes is set for Friday, Nov. 20, at Hilliard High School. The school is located at 1 Flashes Ave., in Hilliard. Toe meets leather at 7:30 p.m.
