Compared to past seasons, it has been a somewhat rare occasion that the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys have found themselves as the underdog. More often than not, the Cowboys have been the favored team. This season, however, the Cowboys have played the role of underdog numerous times. This week is no exception. On Friday, Nov. 5, the Cowboys will travel to the Capital City to face the Rickards High School Raiders. Both teams are coming into the contest with 6-3 records. Both teams are looking to improve their standing in the upcoming playoff picture. The brackets for the Florida High School Athletic Association State Football Championship Tournament will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 7. The Raiders are currently the number 14 ranked team in Class 6A. The Cowboys are the number three ranked team in Class 1A. Looking at the rankings, regardless of classification, Rickards is ranked 72, while the Cowboys are the number 95 team in the state. That, according to MaxPreps.com. The Cowboys have faced higher ranked teams before and have come out on top, but to do that against the Raiders, the Cowboys will have to be at the top of their game.
“Rickards is scary fast and very athletic, like always,” said MCHS Head Coach Mike Coe. “[They are] very well coached and have played a very difficult schedule. It will take us playing a very hard and clean game. We’ve had a great week of prep and we are excited to go play!”
The Cowboys will face the Rickards Raiders on Friday, Nov. 5, at Gene Cox Stadium, in Tallahassee. The stadium is located at 601 Paul Russell Rd., in Tallahassee.
