Madison County High School Head Football Coach Mike Coe often tells his players to simply do their jobs to the best of their abilities and post-season accolades will naturally follow. For many Cowboys that is turning out to be very true. The web site floridahsfootball.com recently named their Class 1A All State Team, and again, the Cowboys are well represented.
Running back Teryon Henderson and offensive lineman Jamarrion Coasey were named to the First Team Offense. Henderson had 1,693 yards rushing on 245 carries for the season, scoring 18 rushing and 2 receiving touchdowns. Coasey had an 88 percent blocking grade with 39 “pancake blocks.” (A pancake block is when the offensive player blocks the defensive players onto his backside and flattens him like a pancake.) Defensive lineman Kelvin Kegler added to his impressive list of accolades, being named to the First Team Defense; along with teammate, defensive back Travis Jay. Kegler had 88 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and three forced fumbles for the season. Jay had 46 tackles, eight interceptions, and 12 passes broken up.
Offensive lineman Alphonso Johnson was named to the Second Team Offense. Johnson had an 88 percent blocking grade and 39 pancake blocks. Defensive back Tinarus “Tank” Irvine was named to the Second Team Defense. Irvine had 118 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, 15 punt returns for 312 yards and one touchdown, 10 carries with 135 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Tre Adams and linebacker Jonathan Alexander received Honorable Mention honors.
