The Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys basketball team survived a tough defensive game against the Tigers of Trenton High School in order to move ahead to the "Elite Eight" round of the Class 1A state basketball tournament. The Cowboys defeated the Tigers, 41-22, in front of a home crowd on Thursday, Feb. 20. The Cowboys managed to edge out a slim 7-5 lead at the end of the opening period. The Cowboys were able to find some rhythm in the second quarter and open their lead to a 21-13 advantage going into halftime. It was another low-scoring time during the third quarter, which ended with the Cowboys still in the lead, 29-16. The Cowboys were able to outscore the Tigers during the final period to secure the 41-22 win.
Zechariah Jones led the Cowboys with another double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Demarvion Brown added nine points and snagged seven boards for the Cowboys.
