On Monday, April 4, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys varsity baseball team hosted the Hornets of Pelham High School, from north of the border, in Pelham, Ga. The Cowboys combined some great pitching from Parker Copeland and good production at the plate to shut out the Hornets, 10-0, in five innings.
After a scoreless first inning, the Cowboys began to heat up, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Then, in the bottom of the third inning, faster than an order of fried gizzards could be filled, the Cowboys had added four more runs. The Cowboys were able to hold the Hornets scoreless through the top half of the fifth inning, when the game was called and the Cowboys had chalked up another win.
Kyler Richie went one for three at the plate, with one run batted in (RBI). Mitch Rutherford had two hits in his three at-bats, with one RBI. JD Bryan was one-for-one at the plate, with one RBI. Rhett Rutherford had one hit in his two at-bats, with one RBI. Jackson Kendrick went one-for-three, with one RBI. Tyrece Pryor had a good evening at the plate with two hits in his two trips to the plate, with one RBI. Mason Plain also went two-for-two, with one RBI.
Copeland was very efficient on the mound, giving up just two hits, no earned runs and no walks. Copeland struck out eight of the 17 batters he faced during the evening.
