The Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys varsity baseball team racked up a whopping 13 runs in the third inning of their game with the Wildcats of Echols County High School, from Statenville, Ga., on their way to an 18-4 win at home on Thursday, March 23. With the win, the Cowboys improved their season record to 5-4.
After falling behind 2-0 after the first inning, the Cowboys pulled ahead, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the second inning. The Wildcats threatened to make a close game of the contest, scoring another two runs in the top of the third inning. Then, the Cowboys opened the floodgates as the Cowboy bats heated up, scoring 13 runs before the Wildcats could get the third out to finish the inning. The Wildcats were kept away from home plate through the fourth inning and the top half of the fifth inning. It was then time to call it a night.
Kyler Richie had two hits in his three at-bats, with three RBIs. Evan Lago was a perfect three-for-three at the plate, with two RBIs. Tyler Perkins-Vickers went one-for-two in the batter's box, with one RBI. Josh Watts had one hit for his three times at-bat, with three RBIs. Mason Plain had one hit in his one at-bat, with one RBI. Gavin Bass had one hit in two at-bats, with one RBI.
Tyler Perkins-Vickers and Aiden Burnett split time on the mound for the Cowboys, giving up five hits, four earned runs, six walks and striking out three.
The Cowboys will be back home on Friday, March 31, to take on the Hornets of Lafayette High School. The first pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
