The Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys won two straight games against competition from across the state line to improve this year's record. On Thursday, April 20, the Cowboys hosted the Bearcats from Bainbridge High School. The Cowboys scored runs in the second, third, and fifth innings; then managed to hold off an attempted Bainbridge rally in the sixth inning to win with a 3-2 final score.
Dilan Lawson went two-for-two at the plate, bringing in one run for the Cowboys. Jae Mitchell totaled one base hit and one RBI from his three trips to the plate. Drew Herring, Lawson, and Trey Mitchell all shared time on the mound for the Cowboys, giving up five hits, no earned runs, and striking out five Bearcat batters.
On Friday, April 21, the Cowboys went on the road to Valdosta to take on the Valiants of Valwood School. There was no shortage of hits for the Cowboys as they cruised to a 13-3 victory. The Cowboy bats racked up a total of 16 hits during the game. The score was tied at two runs apiece at the end of the first inning. Then the Cowboys really got things rolling, scoring five runs in the second and six runs in the third inning. Valwood did score one more run in the third inning, but that was not enough, and the game was called after five innings.
Kris Allen went three-for-three with one RBI. Trey Mitchell went three-for-four with three RBIs. Dustin Bass had two hits and one RBI in his three trips to the plate. Jae Mitchell went two-for-three with two RBIs. Lawson went two-for-three and brought home four runs. Herring had one hit and one RBI to show for his three at-bats. Lawson picked up the win on the mound for the Cowboys, giving up 10 hits, one earned run, and striking out three.
With these two wins, the Cowboys improved their season record to 13-12.
