Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirl weightlifter Jalicia Pride placed fifth in the 169 lb weight class to become the first Cowgirl to earn a spot in the Class 1A State Championship in the program's history. Pride had a bench press of 150 lbs and a clean and jerk lift of 120 lbs, giving her a total of 270 lbs. The Class 1A State Championship Meet is scheduled to take place on Friday, Feb. 12, at Suwannee High School, in Live Oak.
Other Cowgirls who competed in the Region One meet on Friday, Jan. 29, included Myasia Lewis, with a 190 lb total; Jessica Hasty, who had a 205 lb total and Mackenzie Singletary, who lifted a total of 245 lbs.
